Monday Sector Laggards: Utilities, Healthcare

The worst performing sector as of midday Monday is the Utilities sector, showing a 0.9% loss. Within the sector, NextEra Energy Inc (NYSE:NEE) and Alliant Energy Corp (NASDAQ:LNT) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 2.6% and 2.2%, respectively. Among utilities ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE:XLU), which is down 1.2% on the day, and up 4.33% year-to-date. NextEra Energy Inc, meanwhile, is up 2.77% year-to-date, and Alliant Energy Corp is up 8.56% year-to-date. Combined, NEE and LNT make up approximately 18.1% of the underlying holdings of XLU.

The next worst performing sector is the Healthcare sector, showing a 0.3% loss. Among large Healthcare stocks, Teleflex Incorporated (NYSE:TFX) and Boston Scientific Corp. (NYSE:BSX) are the most notable, showing a loss of 1.8% and 1.7%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Healthcare stocks is the Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV), which is down 0.4% in midday trading, and up 12.64% on a year-to-date basis. Teleflex Incorporated, meanwhile, is down 13.13% year-to-date, and Boston Scientific Corp. is up 18.01% year-to-date. Combined, TFX and BSX make up approximately 1.6% of the underlying holdings of XLV.
